Welcome from Co-op Academy Bebington

As we reach the end of our first half term, I am delighted to share some positive reflections on the progress we have made together at Co-op Academy Bebington. It has been a genuine pleasure to be welcomed into lessons across the school and to see many students working very hard, demonstrating their commitment to success and well-being - truly doing what matters most.

We have seen a significant reduction in suspensions, thanks to the high expectations around behaviour consistently upheld by staff and students. This progress reflects our culture of respect and kindness, and it is a pleasure to work in a community where everyone is encouraged to be yourself, always and where positive relationships flourish.

Attendance has improved this term, though we recognise there is still work to be done, particularly at the beginning and end of the week. We remain committed to supporting all students to attend regularly because we know that as we succeed together means every student being present and able to achieve their potential.

A particular highlight was our Celebration Evening last night, where we proudly welcomed all our prize winners. These students were excellent role models, embodying our values by showing care and concern for others, showing they care in their actions and attitudes. Thank you to all the leavers who came back for the evening and good luck to them all in their new ventures.

Thank you to everyone—students, staff, and families—for your continued dedication and making me feel part of this community . Together, we will keep striving to create a supportive and successful school environment where everyone can thrive.

Here’s to a successful and inspiring next half term!

A huge well done to our brilliant B2 Year 7 students who held their first cake sale at Christ Church earlier in the month.

They raised an impressive £131.28, which has been donated to The Holistic Cancer Centre in Claughton. It was fantastic to see their hard work and enthusiasm pay off , we’re incredibly proud of the effort they put in and the support they received from the local community.

A group of our students, along with Libby from Christ Church Higher Bebington, handed over the cheque to Patsy from the centre, who was absolutely delighted and very grateful for the donation.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated cakes, bought a treat, or helped in any way - your support really made a difference.

Exams

Year 11 students will be completing 2 weeks of mock examinations, starting Tuesday 11 November.  These exams are a crucial step in your child's preparation for their external exams in the summer.  Please encourage your child in establishing a structured and consistent revision schedule during the time leading up to the mock exams. Students will receive an individual timetable and there is a full timetable that you can access via our school website.

National Poetry Day

Inspired by the poems displayed around school on National Poetry Day, Shakur in Year 8 wrote a powerful original poem titled Victory.

Victory

The moonlight brushed my shadow thin

As the stars kept secrets deep within.

No sword was drawn, no war was won,

Yet still, I rose before the sun.

On quiet paths the wise they tread,

“I found the truth,” the silence said.

A whispered name, a breath, a flame

And all was returned to the same.

  1. Now Dusk and Dawn both know my face,

I’ve danced with time in sacred space,

Not claimed by a throne, nor bound by a prize,

But crowned beneath unseen skies.

Attendance

It can sometimes be difficult for children to understand how their actions today may impact future employment prospects.

Below are some extracts from recent extensive research by the Department of Education.

1) A child loses £750 in future earnings every time they miss 1 day of school

2) Attendance falling from 100% to 95% equates to a loss of £7500 in future earnings

3) Only 60% of students with attendance below 90% will obtain Full Time jobs in Adulthood

4) On average 13 days of absence throughout Years 7-11 results in a 1 grade reduction across GCSE subjects

5) Families taking children on holiday in term time may save money - HOWEVER they may actually cost the child £750 per day in future earnings

Some startling information to consider and reinforces our desire here at Co-op Academy Bebington that, with your continued support, every child attends whenever possible and gains the maximum benefit from this period in their life.

We're thrilled to see so many students getting involved.

The timing couldn't be better, as we've just welcomed two new furry residents to the school farm. After a fun-filled competition, our new guinea pigs have been officially named Minnie and Amber!

A huge well done to the Farm Club students who also organised a fundraiser, raising a brilliant £40. This money will go directly towards caring for our new arrivals and supporting the farm. Well done, everyone! Thank you Teehey Lane Co-op for providing the chocolate prizes!

School Travel Survey

We want to hear the views of pupils who are old enough to travel to and from school independently. They are the experts on their own school journeys, so filling in this survey will help us to find any barriers to safe active and independent travel, and any issues that we can address through activities in school, or pass on to highways teams to make changes to the road network if necessary.

STEM Club

We've had a great start at STEM Club. The students spent a few weeks developing their engineering skills building bridges out of pasta able to hold heavy masses. They made flames of all colours of the rainbow with the bunsen burners and this week in the spirit of Halloween they made bubbling potions!

Staying Safe Assemblies

This month, all students in Years 7 to 11 attended an assembly delivered by PC Elaine Cowen. The focus was on staying safe during Halloween and Bonfire Night.

PC Cowen spoke to students about the importance of looking after themselves and others in the community. She also discussed what constitutes anti-social behaviour and that we all have a role to play in looking after our community.

Cookery Club

Cooking Club took on an ambitious culinary challenge last week: mastering the art of paella! Students worked wonderfully together to prepare the fresh ingredients and build the complex flavours of this famous Spanish dish. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills. The results were impressive, with everyone cooking a delicious and authentic-looking paella.

Loudspeaker Trip

Our students took part in the Loud Speaker bootcamp as part of speak week at The Everyman theatre in Liverpool on Wednesday.

They learnt about the value of networking, oracy, taking opportunities and owning their stories. Very proud moment watching one of our students get up on the stage to deliver a pitch.

What an incredible opportunity for our  young people.

They explored the key elements of an effective CV and began creating their own drafts. Students also practiced essential interview skills and developed a clearer understanding of what employers value in potential candidates. To round off the morning, they took part in a financial literacy session, learning about budgeting, saving, and how to interpret payslips and taxes.

Students also learned about vocational and technical pathways in a session with Cheshire College South and West. Thank you to all of our guests who provided such a valuable and informative morning.

Work Experience

Year 10 students will all take part in 3 days work experience on 13th May to 15th May 2026.

Work experience helps young people develop skills and confidence and is a very important part of our careers programme

We can't do this without support from home so please think about how you can help your son/daughter find a placement.

Some ideas:

Can they come to work with you for 3 days?

Do you have family members or friends who can host them?

Contact local businesses and ask if they can host your child.

Employers need to have employer liability insurance to host a young person which most already have (unless they are a sole trader) and we manage the admin here in school once the initial contact has been made. Mrs Heald in the Career Office can advise if you have any questions or need any help supporting your child.

Students need to have a work experience placement confirmed by Friday 27th March 2026.

Support our careers programme:

Would you be willing to give an hour to talk to our students about your company or your own career pathway?

Could you help with doing some mock interviews with our students?

Many of our students are interested in careers in construction, so we would be really happy to hear from you if you are in this field and would like to take part in the mock interviews with year 11 in January.

Please email amy.heald@coopacademies.co.uk if you would like to help.

See you next time!
