Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Co-op Academy Bebington Celebrates Another Eco-Schools Green Flag Triumph!

This academic year, pupils at Co-op Academy Bebington have continued to lead the way in promoting sustainability and raising environmental awareness amongst their school community, including peers, staff members, and the wider local community. Their exceptional efforts have once again been recognised with the prestigious, internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.

The Eco-Schools programme, established in 1994, has been inspiring young environmentalists for over 30 years. It has grown into a global movement, with Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation awarded to schools in more than 100 countries. In England alone, the programme reaches over 1 million young people each year, empowering them to make a positive impact on our planet.

Eco-Schools England Manager, Adam Flint, expressed: "Every year, we are amazed by the incredible efforts of young people working together to create a better future for all. Their collective impact is truly remarkable. If everyone approached the climate crisis with the same level of passion and determination, we could resolve it much faster and make it a problem of the past. At Keep Britain Tidy, we are delighted to recognise their achievements with the Eco-Schools Green Flag."

Below are some of the amazing things Eco Club and Mrs Hopkins worked on last academic year.

Active, Green and Safe Travel 💚

As part of Road Safety Week, our Active Travel Team at Wirral Council have been delivering engaging school assemblies focused on how students can travel to school in ways that are active, environmentally friendly, and safe. Key messages shared with students include cycling respectfully, wearing a helmet and being mindful of all road users.

Dr Bike

Dr Bike have been delivering free safety and maintenance checks on our bikes. Our community police officers also visited and have security marked over 30 bikes free of charge, and we have handed out 30 sets of free bike lights to keep pupils seen on our roads.

World Environment Day 2025

Theme: Ending Plastic Pollution

Our incredible students in the Resourced Provision took action for the planet as part of #WorldEnvironmentDay! 🌱♻️

With this year’s theme “Ending Plastic Pollution,” they created powerful posters to raise awareness and spark change in our school community. Each design carried a clear, urgent message: our planet needs us—now more than ever.

One student even wrote a moving, inspirational poem that left staff and students alike in awe. 📝✨ Their words reminded us that no voice is too small to make a difference.

We are so proud of their creativity, passion, and commitment to protecting the environment. 🌊🐢🌿

Let’s all play our part in creating a cleaner, greener future.

Wirral Barn Owl Trust

Thank you to Neil and Ole from Wirral Barn Owl Trust for visiting Eco Club to talk about barn owls and why they need to be protected. They conducted a site survey so we can place an order for an owl box to be installed at school.

Modeshift

We are pleased to announce we are the first secondary school on the Wirral to be awarded a Green Accreditation Award from Modeshift, a national campaign to support young people to travel actively and safely to schoo.

Eco club, Mrs Hopkins and the school council representatives have conducted surveys and audits to understand issues around current modes of transport, issues around safety and barriers to travelling more sustainably. Over the coming months there will be bike safety assemblies, bike workshops and further projects to help us work with pupils and to bring safer, greener streets to our community.

Hog Friendly

We are excited to share that we have won the secondary school category in the Hedgehog Friendly Litter Pick Challenge!

Eco Schools

Mrs Hopkins and Eco Club had a productive meeting with Lynn, Wirral Council Eco Schools Officer, to discuss their input on the climate change agenda.
