Special Education Needs
Welcome to our SEND page, full of information about our offer for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
We have a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants who work with our students to help them enjoy learning and succeed in their studies.
Whilst no two students are the same, our support often involves:
- helping teachers to offer their students a choice of tasks (so that lessons are suitable for the range of abilities in their class)
- providing in-class support to students
- individual or group interventions to support students with a specific topic
For each student with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities, we pair them with a key staff member who can act as the main link for that student and their parents/carers. We listen to the student’s and parent’s wishes when planning support.

MLD Provision

Key Stage(s):
MLD Provision Base: Key stage 3/4/5
Eligibility Criteria:
All pupils have an EHCP and are placed in the Resourced Provision by Wirral LA.
Number of Places:
6 for September 2027
Integration with Mainstream:
MLD resourced base provision will attend Mainstream Art, Drama, Music, Technology and other subjects depending upon students' individual ability levels.
Curriculum & Approach:
Nurturing an environment with small class sizes, all pupils will follow a broad and balanced curriculum aligned with the mainstream focus. Following the whole school approach and age-appropriate national curriculum but highly adapted for each cohort of students and individual needs. Environment: Primary learning environment is within the resource provision base, with some lessons in the mainstream environment.
Key Focus: Build progressive life skills, target academic foundations, and leave with a selection of entry level qualifications. Students take fewer options for GCSE/BTEC in Year 10/11 or Entry Level Certificates offered alongside GCSE qualifications. ASDAN qualifications which focus on life and independence skills. Work experience in KS4.

Assessment & Progress Tracking:
● Will follow the White Rose programmes for Maths and Science - assessed after each module.
● English is assessed using the English ARK framework at key stage 3 and entry level requirements at key stage 4.
● All other subject assessments are completed by Evidence for learning where photographic evidence is logged / tracked - to evidence EHCP targets.
Environment & Facilities:
• 3 teaching classrooms, 1 regulation room, 2 counselling rooms.
Additional Opportunities:
● Farm onsite - Farm Club after school Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays
● Lego Club
● Community fundraising events / Work with local church
● Regular use of community / walks and community organised events.
● Other clubs ran by different subject departments.
Staffing & Expertise:
SENCO trained Lead Teacher, with Teachers also trained in SEMH and HLTAs to support the pupil's learning.

SEMH Provision

Key Stage(s):
SEMH Resource provision base.
Eligibility Criteria:
All pupils have an EHCP and are placed in the resourced provision by Wirral Local Authority.
Number of Places:
12 places per year.
Integration with Mainstream:
Approach: Mainstream integration and enhanced transitional support and bespoke SEMH interventions depending on the individual needs of each child.
Key Focus: To engage in mainstream curriculum lessons whilst accessing support with emotional regulation, bespoke SEMH interventions and bridging to mainstream.
Curriculum & Approach:
Environment: Mainstream lessons are attended whilst having a classroom base in the resource provision area as a regulation zone when required. SEMH interventions also implemented up to 25% of pupils timetabled lessons per week when required.
All Pupils will follow a mainstream timetable and will attend the Resource base for SEMH interventions such as Zones of Regulation, Grit curriculum, Calm Curriculum as well as reading and Maths support. Pupils will have access to a regulation room within the base after a regulation walk if needed.

Assessment & Progress Tracking:
Mainstream curriculum is followed. Pupils will be assessed by teachers in mainstream lessons. SEMH interventions will be assessed using SEMH tracking assessment tools to check on progress prior and after interventions have taken place.
Environment & Facilities:
• 1 regulation room / SEMH Intervention room, 2 counselling rooms. ELSA and EBSA support from trained staff.
● In school and external Counsellor
● External Mental health referrals if required.
