Core Maths

Core Mathematics – ENRICHMENT

Entry Requirements: GCSE Mathematics Grade 5 or above.

Is this course for me?

This is an extra qualification (equivalent to an AS Level) and would be studied alongside your course choices, it takes place during enrichment and you have 2 hours of teaching per week. Core Maths helps to develop students' mathematical skills and thinking. It supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications. It is also a good option for students who wish to continue their study of mathematics without taking on the mainstream full A level course. The course is relevant to real life, modern, accessible to students and applies to all careers.

Where does it lead?

Where does it lead? Universities have listed the advantages of studying maths to level 3 for courses including; Architecture, Biosciences, Biomedical Sciences, Business and Management Degrees, Chemistry, Education, Psychology, Economics, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Politics, Sociology, Social Science, Sports Science and more. For those considering a more vocational pathway, Core Mathematics is a valuable qualification to hold if considering apprenticeships in Engineering, or Business. Several universities have made reduced tariff offers to students who are taking Core Maths to reflect the value that they place on the course. Many employers say they are keen to work with people who can solve problems and the work we do with real-life problem solving will help with this.
