English Language Resit - AQA
If you have not been able to attain a Grade 4 at either English Language or English Literature, then you will need to attend this course. It is compulsory.
Is this course for me?
It is a government requirement that students attain a Grade 4 or above in either English Language or English Literature. If you did not attain this grade, then you will need to resit English Language.
Students will draw upon a range of texts as reading stimulus and engage with creative as well as real and relevant contexts. Students will have opportunities to develop higher-order reading and critical thinking skills that encourage genuine enquiry into different topics and themes.
This course will ensure that students can read fluently and write effectively. Students will be able to demonstrate a confident control of Standard English and write grammatically correct sentences, deploying figurative language and analysing texts.
Where does it lead?
Having a secure pass in English Language GCSE will enable students to go on to study courses of their choice in Higher Education. If you have to resit, it does not mean that you cannot carry on with your sixth form studies, as the course will run alongside level two and three courses. The advantage of staying at Co-op Academy Bebington Sixth Form is that the students will be familiar with the school environment, the teachers and their teaching styles.
How will I be assessed?
You will have the opportunity to resit both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in November. However, if you are not successful at this first attempt, then there will be further opportunity for you to resit again the following summer (May/June).
Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing. It is a written exam, it is 80 marks and counts for 50% of the final GCSE grade. It is 1 hour 45 minutes long and it consists of 2 sections:

Paper 2 – Writers’ Perspectives and Viewpoints. It is a written exam, it is 80 marks and counts for 50% of the final GCSE grade. It is 1 hour 45 minutes long and it consists of 2 sections:
